RAILPOL - European network of Railway Police Forces

BackRAILPOL: first international training Public Order

Different European Railway Police practise together

Members of the railway police of Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany and Great Britain have a common exercise. On the 10th and 11th June 2010 the RAILEX, an international field exercise of the different European Railway Police, takes places. This exercise is an outcome of the European network of Railway Police: RAILPOL. RAILPOL has 16 members. The aim of RAILPOL is to get to know each other better, to share experiences and to gain operational cooperation.

Working Group Public Order

RAILPOL has different Working Groups. Each Working Group handles specific topics. The Working Group Public Order deals with matters concerning the public order. Due to the meetings of the Working Group Public Order, all the members have the possibility to know each other better, to learn from each other and to exchange best practises. In using the same terms an the same language, misunderstandings are avoided. The participating countries can immediate brief their own collegues. This results in a greater cooperation and harmonisation in the used techniques. The Working Group Public Order is very aware of the fact that more and more international and European events are organised. Transportation to and from these events happens more and more by train. Coming up are the Belgian EU presidency from july 2010 and the Olympic Games 2012 in London. A lot of people will use the train as their mean of transportation.

First international fieldexercise

As a part of the evolution in international cooperation within RAILPOL, the idea is putted forward to organise an unique international exercise in Brussels, Belgium. The date is set on the 10th and 11th of June 2010. In total, there will be eight exercises. For example, an escort of football supporters to a train, an escort of VIP’s alongside a protest march, how to evacuate a train carriage or how to arrest one or more persons in a train. The participating countries for this first field exercise are Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany and Great Britain. Each country sends out eight to ten police officers of the railway police to participate in the RAILEX. Other member countries of RAILPOL, like Italy, Bulgaria, Slovakia and Romania, send out observers. They will observe the field exercise and participate actively as “demonstrators” during the exercises.
