The Railway Police is one of the four specialties of the Italian Police. The other ones are the Road Police, the Postal Police and of the Communications and the Police of frontier.

The activity of the Railway Police develops him in two important sectors of the prevention and repression of the crimes:

the safety on board of the trains and the safety in the stations

This specialty of the Italian Police is present on the national territory with 15 Compartments from which 17 sections, 36 subsections and 169 places. There are 2.500 stations watched over by the 4.800 police officers in service that cover 16.000 kilometers of railroad where every day more than 7.500 trains and 1.400.000 travelers pass.

The principal objective is to satisfy the safety request of those people that, to like or for duty, pass in the stations. The Police officers are ready to intervene in any moment to resolve human cases but also to face the emergencies. They look for disappeared people, escort the trains of the fans, often face delicate and urgent episodes, even if few institutional. Obviously they hold then under control "the experts of the theft" because as in all the crowded places the thieves are always ready to enter action.

Among the most binding activities there is also that of escort technique to the fans. Police officers in uniform but in many cases also in civil clothes confused with the supporters to see if on board train something strange happens and, in the case, to inform the Police officers of the nearest station.

From the May 2006 to December 2008 a task force has been founded besides against the copper and metal thefts with bright results that have allowed to demolish the phenomenon in drastic way.
